Make your own make your own – The Picasso Dog hand sewing project with this free pattern and detailed tutorial.
Materials:
- 2 sheets of A4 felt for the dog’s body (your own colour choice)
- Scraps of felt for the nose, eye and patch (your own colour choice)
- Complimentary/contrasting embroidery thread (your own colour choice) Separate the 6 strands into 2 sets of 3 strands each.
- Wadding to lightly stuff the dog
Tools:
- Embroidery needle
- Scissors
- Pins
- picassodogpattern
How to make:
Download the pattern above and print on A4 paper at 100%.
Cut out the pattern.
Pin each pattern piece onto the felt and cut out in the amounts specified on the pattern.
Using the sample complete Picasso dog on the A4 sheet layout the nose, eye and patch on only one of the sides of the dog’s body. Starting with the eye, attach the pupil to the eye patch using a backstitch all the way around the circle, keeping your stitches small.
Next attach the completed eye to the dog’s body, again using the backstitch. (Small stitches)
Then attach the nose and the patch, again using the backstitch. NB only stitch along the edge of the patch and the nose pieces that are inside the body area, the entire circumference of the dog is going to be stitched together, so there is no need to stitch those areas just yet. (Small stitches)
Place the front of the Picasso dog on top of the back of the dog felt piece, pin. NB make sure the eye, nose and patch side is facing you.
Starting at point a. on the pattern backstitch all the way around the circumference of the dog until you reach point b.
Lightly stuff the Picasso dog and continue sewing until you reach point a.
