Make your own Daydreams Nursery Mobile with our free sewing pattern.
This cute felt mobile is our 2nd pattern release as part of the Sew Crafty Design Team. After working on our cloud baby mobile I wanted to extend our pattern collection for nursery mobiles and along the way I became inspired by sailboats. I can see sailboats becoming my new obsession 🙂 This pattern is really very simple to make, it is all sewn together with a simple running stitch – hand sewing all the way, so no need for a sewing machine.
Click on the link for our complete guide to working a selection of hand sewing stitches including the running stitch. https://missdaisypatterns.com/how-to-guide-stitches/

To make:
Download the Daydreams Nursery Mobile Sewing Pattern linked above and print out at 100% on A4 paper.
Using the paper scissors cut out each of the paper pattern pieces.
For the mobile featured here I made 2 sailboats, 2 cloud and 2 stars, but you can make as many of the different items as required. (Note: The materials listed above is specific to the mobile I made here, adjust as necessary)
Pin the patterns to the felt and cut out the amounts listed on each pattern per item.
Star:
Using 2 strands of the mint green embroidery thread/floss thread your sewing needle and place a small knot at the bottom of the thread.
Taking note of the ‘leave open for stuffing’ area marked on the star sewing pattern, insert the needle between the 2 star felt pieces and secure the knot inside.
Work a running stitch around the circumference of the star stopping to stuff lightly before closing completely with the running stitch.
Next complete the 2nd star.
Cloud:
Firstly sew the cloud button in place onto one side only of the cloud pieces.
Taking note of the ‘leave open for stuffing’ area marked on the cloud sewing pattern, insert the needle between the 2 cloud felt pieces and secure the knot inside.
Work a running stitch around the circumference of the cloud stopping to stuff lightly before closing completely with the running stitch.
Next complete the 2nd cloud.
Sailboat:
Boat:
Taking note of the ‘leave open for stuffing’ area marked on the boat section of the sewing pattern, insert the needle between the 2 boat felt pieces and secure the knot inside.
Work a running stitch around the circumference of the boat stopping to stuff lightly before closing completely with the running stitch.
Sails:
Firstly sew the star button in place onto one side only of the large sail felt pieces.
Taking note of the ‘leave open for stuffing’ area marked on the large sail section of the sewing pattern, insert the needle between the 2 large sail felt pieces and secure the knot inside.
Work a running stitch around the circumference of the large sail stopping to stuff lightly before closing completely with the running stitch.
Sew the star button in place onto one side only of the small sail pieces.
Taking note of the ‘leave open for stuffing’ area marked on the small sail section of the sewing pattern, insert the needle between the 2 small sail felt pieces and secure the knot inside.
Work a running stitch around the circumference of the small sail stopping to stuff lightly before closing completely with the running stitch.
Lay the sailboat out as shown in the picture below and sew the sails together where shown.
Next, complete the 2nd sailboat.
Taking the hoop, separate the two sections.
On the inner section tie the embroidery thread/floss as shown in the image below, creating a cross in the middle of the hoop.
Replace the outside hoop.
For all of this section you will be using the 6 strands of embroidery thread/floss.
Next cut off 6 different lengths of the embroidery thread/floss. I played with the lengths as I was putting the mobile together.
Using the large eye needle, sew one of the threads in place at the top of the star and knot the thread onto one of the threads inside the hoop.
Repeat on the cloud and the 2 sailboats, knotting them onto the other 3 thread sections.
Finally sew the star to the cloud leaving a small space between them, when they are hanging.
Then sew the final piece of thread onto the top of the cloud, tie this onto the middle section of the crossed thread.
To hang up measure out a length of thread and attach to the middle section of the cross extending upwards.
Your mobile is now ready.
I am trying to add to my cart the baby cloud and it wont let me. Can uou please help me.
