I stumbled across Papier Mâché by Suzanne Haines in Bell, Book and Candle Bookshop, Galway on one of my trips, back “West” as they say. I had initially made a Papier Mâché doll the year previous, see the doll here, and I preferred making textile based dolls. So I was in two minds as to add any more books into my crafty collection, but then again you can never have too many books, and I am so glad I did get it.
Firstly it covers everything you need to know from a brief history, to the materials and equipment you need and the basic techniques involved in the whole process, coupled with excellent pictures, and this is before you even get to the projects.
Secondly, the book covers 12 projects for you to make at home, from jewellery, to mirrors, to masks, a painted lady and then my absolute favourite section a dolls’ house with furniture and a doll as well.
All the steps are covered clearly with detailed images to back up the written instructions along the way. I do so want to make the doll’s house, but for the moment it is going to have to be a project for the future.
If you are looking for a book the covers Papier Mâché, comprehensively yet simply then I would definitely recommend this one.
The book is available on Amazon click here. One thing to note is this is an old book, my copy dates to 1991 and 99% of the books available on Amazon are secondhand.
