Make your own fairy toadstool with this quick and easy to follow free pattern & tutorial from Miss Daisy Patterns.
Materials & Tools:
- Red & cream felt
- Mint green embroidery thread / floss
- Paper & material scissors
- Pins & embroidery needle
- Rice & funnel
- Polyester craft filler
- Pattern (To download click here)
- A4 Printer & paper
To make:
Download the pattern indicated above and print on an A4 sheet of paper at 100%.
Using the paper scissors cut out the pattern pieces.
Pin each piece on to the corresponding felt colour and cut out the amounts specified on each pattern.
Start by embroidering two lazy daisy stitch flowers onto the front of one of the toadstool stem pieces, use a back stitch to indicate the stems. These can be done to any size you choose.
I used 4 strands of the embroidery thread to create the flowers.
See video below.
Using the whip stitch sew the front and back of the stem together along the sides.
Click here for a guide to stitches used in this tutorial.
Insert in the small circle at the base of the toadstool stem and whip stitch in place securely.
Stand the stem up and insert the funnel into the opening at the top, and fill 3/4 of the way with rice.
Fill to the top with the craft filler, making sure the rice is secure at the bottom.
Then leave aside.
Take the 6 cream felt pieces of felt and whip stitch together along the sides of each triangle from top to bottom.
Use 2 strands of the embroidery thread / floss.
Continue until the whole 6 are together and turn inside out.
Place over the top of the toadstool stem and sew around the top securing the two pieces together.
The toadstool should look like the image below.
Take the 6 red felt toadstool pieces and again sew the whole 6 together along the sides.
Use 2 strands of the embroidery thread / floss.
Take the small red felt rectangle, roll into a tube and sew along one side to secure in place.
Sew this to the very top point of the red felt pieces.
Place the red felt over the cream felt and match up each of the lines of sewing, whip stitch all around the circumference of the toadstool top.
All of the whip stitching should remain on the outside of the toadstool.
The toadstool is now finished and can be used to decorate a fairy village or fairy themed decor.
Note: The toadstools in this tutorial are for decorative purposes only due to the rice in the base of the stem.
