Fabric Layered Christmas Tree – I reworked my Felt DIY Christmas Tree to create a fabric one, same pattern with slightly different materials and instructions. The sewing pattern for complimentary textile mushrooms in the image above is available here https://missdaisypatterns.com/product/textile-mushroom-sewing-pattern/

Materials & Tools:

  • Craft Filler
  • 2 fat quarters of cotton (complimentary colours) I used some left over sections of fabric from a previous project.
  • Wadding or batting for quilting (see the layer sizes for amounts)
  • Lace to trim the layers of the tree, see pattern for width
  • Scissors
  • Pins & needle
  • Sewing machine & thread to match the fabric
  • Sellotape (for attaching the pattern pieces together)
  • A4 paper & printer – download the pattern below and print at 100%

The pattern and video tutorial is available here

Basically I followed the original tutorial in amounts to cut out:

  • I cut out 1 tree side, 1 top later side and 1 middle layer side from Fabric 1, and the same again from fabric 2.
  • From the second fabric I also cut out the base. I also cut out two side of the tip and middle layers from the wadding.
  • I end up with the layered design in the image below. I also measured out how much lace I needed at this point.
  • Next I machine stitched the wadding to each of the matching layer sections along the base of the layer only.
  • Then placing the layers right sides together (note each side will be a different fabric) I machine sewed the top layer all the way around and the middle layer as per the original pattern. (turn both sections right side out)
  • Machine sew the lace onto the base of each of the layers.
  • The main tree body is sewn together as per the original pattern. It is just machine sewn together instead of hand sewn, so all the stitching is on the inside.
  • The layers can now be placed over the tree. They are reversible so you can either have two full complete colour sides or complimentary colour sides.
